Six cup standards and three fluid ounces
US customary, metric and Imperial are distinct measuring systems. Use the FDA equivalents for US nutrition labels that call for those household measures. Japanese recipes may use a cooking cup or the rice measure that comes with a rice cooker. Check the markings and the recipe instructions before treating them as interchangeable.

Pints, quarts and gallons
The next table uses US liquid units. Imperial measures and US dry measures have separate definitions. Check which system a recipe or container specifies before using a household shortcut.
| Quantity | US customary cups | US fl oz |
|---|---|---|
| 1 US liquid pint | 2 | 16 |
| 1 US liquid quart | 4 | 32 |
| 1 US liquid gallon | 16 | 128 |
Imperial and metric liquid measures
Check the capacity printed on a container. A liter bottle uses metric units. A jug marked in Imperial pints uses a different unit from a US liquid pint.

Spoons to milliliters
The capacity of a tablespoon depends on the standard. Marked teaspoons also come in US customary and metric sizes. The reference compares both spoon families in mL. For interactive spoon conversions, open cups to tablespoons or tablespoons to teaspoons.
